The Carl W. Armstrong Patient Safety Fund

The Carl W. Armstrong Patient Safety Fund, an endowment fund which will provide scholarship assistance to students with an interest in patient safety measures, has been established in honor of Dr. Carl W. Armstrong. Dr. Armstrong's sincere, selfless and tireless efforts have been paramount in the successful development, promotion, and implementation of the Executive Fellowship in Patient Safety offered through our department. This fund will ensure that individuals embracing an interest reflective of Dr. Armstrong's passion for patient safety will receive monetary assistance to ensure pursuit of such.

Dr. Armstrong is a physician executive and senior medical advisor with the American Hospital Association and The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. Additionally, Dr. Armstrong is past president of the Virginians Improving Patient Care and Safety (VIPCS) coalition, he has been a member of the American Hospital Association's Clinical Quality Team, and he has served as a member of the Safe Practices for Better Healthcare Steering Committee of the National Quality Forum.

A minimum of $10,000 is needed to create this endowed scholarship and ascertain that Dr. Armstrong's patient safety impetus is perpetuated via our institution. We are asking that anyone interested in donating to this endowment contact the founder of the Executive Fellowship in Patient Safety, Karen N. Swisher, MS, JD, at (804) 828-1894 or kswisher@hsc.vcu.edu . Armstrong Patient Safety Fund; please remit any donations to Karen N. Swisher, MCV Campus, Grant House, 1008 East Clay Street, PO Box 980203, Richmond, VA 23298-0203.
