About our flagship contributor…
HCA Richmond Hospitals leads the Richmond community in more ways than one: one of our facilities was the first hospital in Richmond; the clinical outcomes in our hospitals are among the best in the nation; our doctors have pioneered ground-breaking technology; we have donated more than $2 million to community service organizations in the past two years; and with more than 5,800 employees, we are the fourth-largest private employer in the Richmond area.
HCA Richmond is a network of four hospitals and two outpatient surgery centers – CJW Medical
Center, Henrico Doctors’ Hospitals, John Randolph Medical Center, Retreat Hospital, Tuckahoe
Surgery Center and Hanover Outpatient Center. The six facilities work collectively and independently
to provide high-quality healthcare, and each one serves a distinct geographical area and has unique
clinical strengths. As a network they offer every service from primary care to transplants, with two
state-designated trauma centers, the largest psychiatric facility in the region, cancer programs with the
highest-possible level of accreditation, and a maternal/infant unit that delivers more babies than any
other hospital in the area.
The hospitals in the Richmond Market do more than just raise the level of healthcare in the region. HCA has a long tradition of giving back to the people it serves through donations and community service. It supports local events and organizations through donations, and each year its employees volunteer countless hours of community service to local and national organizations.
In addition to being active in the community, the hospitals in the Richmond Market have received national recognition for clinical outcomes from several independent sources. CJW Medical Center was named a 100 Top Hospital for cardiac care by Solucient in 2002 and Henrico Doctors’ Hospitals received the same designation in 2001. CJW was also rated the best heart hospital in the region in 2001, 2002 and 2003 by HealthGrades, and HealthGrades gave CJW 19 five-star ratings for clinical outcomes – more than any hospital in Richmond.
Nationally recognized outcomes go hand-in-hand with cutting edge technology, and HCA’s facilities use new technologies to benefit both patients 23 and doctors. Henrico Doctors’ Hospitals is one of only a few hospitals nationwide to be chosen to conduct clinical trials using the daVinci Surgical System for closed-chest coronary artery bypass surgery. The daVinci System is a minimally invasive surgical tool that reduces recovery time and improves patient outcomes.
CJW Medical Center is home to a pharmacy robot that can fill prescriptions four times faster than a human. The robot serves all the Richmond facilities, and it reflects HCA’s commitment to patient safety by reducing medication and dosing errors.
HCA Richmond Hospitals is also enhancing patient care by installing a system-wide PACS (picture and archive communication system) that stores electronic images of X-rays, CT scans and other diagnostic modalities and transmits them anywhere on the network in seconds. This technology saves time – which can be vital in an emergency – and helps doctors read scans more accurately.
The facilities that make up HCA Richmond Hospitals have seen Richmond’s past and they are leading the way toward the future. By bringing new technology and a higher level of patient care to Richmond, these six facilities are making Richmond a better place to live.
